Seated Sakymuni Buddha, Uthong Period, 14th - 15th Centuries

Buddha Image ' B ' Style:

The Buddha image is seated in the 'Virasana' posture, with the left hand resting palm open on the lap, and the right hand forming the 'Maravijaya' mudra. The profile is tall and slender with a elongated torso, broad shoulders and narrow waist. The forehead is marked by a small band which separates the face from the hair line. The head is covered small rasp-like curls, and surmounted by a hemispherical 'Ushnisha', topped by a very tall flamed finial set in a cup.

The face has a refine remote appearance, characterized by an oval face, curved eyebrows, pointed nose and a wide mouth with thick lips.

The robe is worn diagonally covering the left shoulder leaving the right bare and is indicated by a thickened line. The robe flap hangs down from the left shoulder to the midriff, with a flat belt visible at the waist. The inward-curved base is shaped like a thick disk deeply indented along the edge like a pulley wheel laid on its side, a distinct feature of the Uthong period buddhas.

Height: 32.0 inches(81.28cm).
