Buddhistic LionsExtrodinary pair of Chinese buddhistic lions, created with one paw resting on the gold. Elaborately molded with incised swirl patterns across an arching tail, coiled eyebrows with eyes bulging outward.
Brilliantly decorated in vibrant five-color enamels of cobalt blue, green, cream and aubergine (egg-plant purple) on a golden yellow ground. The glazed surface reveals a hard, almost glassy finish. Late 19th century.
