Sukhothai Period Buddha A meditating Buddha, the face with a down-cast expression. Displays
the Bhumispara Mudra(hands placed in gesture to call the Earth to witness). Seated in the "Virasana" pose (one
leg atop the sole of the other foot), this image is an excellent example of the
Sukhothai style of the Classic Period.
Lost-Wax casted, the core within the bronze consists of
tempered clay, revealing cross-hatched patterns of rice husk. The surface has a smooth brown
patina covered in a light deposit of greeen encrustations, with patches of iron corrosion and
soil deposits. This Buddha dates from the 15th century.
